This Monday, we are chatting with The Sagittarian Mind! He first caught my attention on Instagram after I seen a mutual of mine post one of his astrology posts about Gemini Venuses. Me, being an astrology girly— of course I had to lurk. What I appreciate about this astrologer is how he incorporates the influence of astrological transits into Black cultural moments like song, album, and movie releases. His astrology is never confined to just studying personality traits. Personally, I had never seen that before, making him stand out compared to a lot of other astrologers I follow.
He also posts a lot of his book reads which are usually centered around Black psychology, astrology, mysticism, and sociology. There’s been a few books I’ve picked up on Amazon just by way of his posts. Being a 9th house stellium, I admire the way he expands astrology into other areas of pop culture, instead of the traditional, popular approach that many astrologers take today. Can’t explain it, but his page just gives off vintage Black mystic/philosopher and I love it!
Make sure you’re following him on Instagram and Twitter!
And book a consultation with him as well!

The Sagittarian Mind… Walk me through why you chose this name!
The simple and direct reason why I chose this name is because of the mercury in Sagittarius placement in my chart. Mercury is connected to our intellectual & communicative faculties, and it’s placed in the sign of Sagittarius. I love what it represents: a hunger & thirst for knowledge and a knack for seeing phenomena in larger wholes. An eclectic mind; one that’s always searching to see things in more expansive ways.
I actually have a 9th house stellium, so I definitely feel you. It’s like my mind is always restless because knowledge fuels me so much. How are you tapping into your playfulness these days? I feel like taking in so much knowledge can sometimes dysregulate your nervous system. I had to learn to find a balance so that I’m not too disconnected from my sensuality and my body. It’s like all brain work that you forget about the physical connection you should have to oneself.
Using music as a language and a vehicle naturally taps into my playfulness because there are so many angles that you can take when interpreting something. For me, that generates an automatic environment of enjoyment and self-expression in my work, and it also surpasses what I would call the purely “academic” when it comes to astrology, while incorporating an artistic component that’s fluid and malleable.
What jump started your interest in astrology?
I’d say a natural curiosity about personality & human motivation. Astrology was one of the symbolic languages that spoke to me.
So are you into human design and numerology as well? I feel like they’re all interconnected, honestly.
I’m not as much into Human Design and Numerology as I am systems like the Enneagram & the Myers-Briggs, etc. My work as a Recruiter has always had me fully entrenched in these modules and interpreting them for people. I do understand the interconnections, however.
As a Black man, did you receive any pushback from any of the Black men in your circle or family once they realized you were into astrology?
My circle has been extremely supportive of me whether they’re astrologically inclined or not. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate in that way.
I peep you have a big interest in Black music and culture. You utilize astrology to study where the stars were when certain albums or songs dropped, and I find that so cool. Do you carry this same energy when it comes to projects you’re working on personally?
Thank you. And, yes. Absolutely. Everything that you can think of was “born” at a certain moment & it takes on the particular qualities & significance of that moment in time. I love deciphering the meaning when it comes to music, film, etc… especially those creations that I would consider to have significant cultural relevance and impact.
When you are doing readings, are you considering other factors like race, class, sexuality, and gender when giving advice?
Absolutely. I place a great deal of importance on the person, socialization, environment & circumstances as well as the birth chart. So, in my opinion, it’s important to cultivate competence about all of these areas as to be able to have context and understand the client’s lived experience. As an Astrologer, I place just as much emphasis on the human condition as I do the Astrological interpretations that may articulate it.
What about you? Do you resonate with every aspect of your birth chart? Because for some of my placements, I feel like I do not, but I also have this understanding that maybe it’ll resonate later in life as I have different experiences and meet different people who will mold me.
I relate to my birth chart pretty strongly, but I definitely feel like we experience the contents of our birth chart differently over time. Everything has such a variety of possibilities that we may not understand our cosmic makeup instantaneously, and it takes our personal transits activating certain parts of our chart. We also can’t forget about the major phases like our Jupiter & Saturn returns, etc.I’ve always been an advocate of looking at out chart as a guide that’s open to situational interpretation as opposed to a rigid referendum on how we’re supposed to make every move in our lives.
What’s the hardest part about being an astrologer?
Helping others understand what it is and what it isn’t. Sometimes people tend to just throw the whole bag at you and assume you’re into all of these different things that may qualify as being astrology adjacent. Like: Oh, you’re an Astrologer? What do you think about UFO’s, Aliens & lottery numbers?
What are some popular astrology takes that you feel lack a sense of diversity and inclusion?
I don’t know if this qualifies as “popular” or not, but in many books, you would see the author as making a connection between the rising sign & one’s physical appearance. However, many of the traits, characteristics & features of people that looked like me were excluded. This definitely created a sense of disconnection.
How have you incorporated the study of astrology into your everyday logic/daily routines while still remaining grounded?
Developing routines for myself, no matter how small, has definitely helped me in this way. Whether it’s done form of meditation/visualization that’s done at the same time each day, or the research that I do regarding music & film release dates.
In what ways do you believe astrology could help Black men in finding themselves?
I think astrology can go a long way in helping us to identify strengths, talents & the most constructive ways to funnel our energies. Also, providing awareness on our challenges & what may be sources of tension in our lives. And, specifically the cycles of crisis & development that we need to pay attention to in order to maximize what’s in our charts. In addition, understanding more about our optimal way of relating to others can produce significant strides in self-knowledge.
Knowing you have this knowledge, what are some things you do in your day to day to impact the community using astrology?
What I do on a day to day basis as related to Astrology mainly concerns where I choose to place my focus and energy. My days are typically filled with clients who purchase consultations to navigate their charts and discuss whatever is on their mind at the time. I also teach astrology classes at the beginner’s and intermediate levels and i offer mentoring to other professional astrologers. So, my days are relatively full.
What’s next for The Sagittarian Mind?
I’ve been contemplating book and podcast ideas, but I’m open to anything that would assist me in disseminating astrological information to a wider audience that helps people become more enriched culturally, spiritually & creatively.
Thank you so much for the interview. Excellent questions & it was deeply appreciated. Please keep up your wonderful work!!
Oh wow, I used to follow him years ago. I'm glad to see he's still gaining visibility and recognition!
